and Vernier named a three-time 2015 Bett Awards finalist
“We are constantly innovating to provide students and teachers with robust technologies that allow them to participate in truly engaging, hands-on learning,” said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and former physics teacher. “The recognition from these two leading education awards programs is a great honor.”
Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence
Now in its 32nd year, the Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence recognize software, hardware, network, and web products that include innovative applications that break new ground, as well as those that added significant enhancements to proven education tools. A panel of more than 30 educators, who tested more than 150 entries including the Go Wireless Temp, chose this year’s winners.
The Go Wireless Temp is a rugged, stainless-steel temperature sensor that changes the way students can collect scientific data during classroom investigations using iOS devices. The Go Wireless Temp’s durability, temperature range and wireless capability allows students to explore temperature in the environment and in systems such as fish tanks, greenhouses, thermal mugs, or heating and cooling devices. The sensor is also supported by a free, intuitive iOS app that allows students to easily view and record temperature readings.
Bett Awards
The highly-esteemed Bett Awards showcase resources and companies that seek to provide educators with the information, ideas and inspiration that are fundamental to the learning process. All entries, including the LabQuest 2 and Connected Science System, as well as the Video Physics app, were assessed on specific criteria including design, cost-effectiveness, accessibility, innovation, enabling effective learning, and supporting learning beyond the classroom. All winners will be announced at the Bett Awards ceremony on January 21, 2015 in London, England.
Used as a standalone device, or as a data-collection interface for computers with Vernier’s Logger Pro software, LabQuest 2 features a 12.8 cm, high-resolution touch screen, real-time data collection, powerful analysis tools, and on-board curriculum. Its built-in GPS, 3-axis accelerometer, ambient temperature, light, and microphone sensors broaden data-collection opportunities while offering schools increased value. Additionally, LabQuest 2’s software features quick response to touch, curve fits, and modeling, and the interface can collect data at a rate of up to 100,000 samples per second.
The LabQuest 2 also comes with the Connected Science System, which includes Graphical AnalysisTM for iPad®, Vernier Data ShareTM, and LabQuest Viewer, to support hands-on, collaborative learning with individualized accountability. Using the built-in Wi-Fi capability, students can use the system to share data from LabQuest 2 to any device with a web browser, including iPad, iPhone®, and Android™ devices. Students can also send data from LabQuest 2 to any email address, and they can connect LabQuest 2 to a computer with a projector to view and control the device in a presentation format.
Video Physics brings physics video analysis to iPhone®, iPod touch® and iPad®. Students and teachers can capture video of an object in motion, mark its position frame by frame, and set the scale using a known distance. Video Physics then draws trajectory, position, and velocity graphs for the object. The app also allows for sharing of video, graphs, and data to other apps, such as Vernier’s Graphical Analysis. Data and video can even be emailed for use with computers running Vernier's Logger Pro software.
