Petaluma, CA (March 29th) - Inspired by the pioneering spirit of the countless astrophysicists and aerospace engineers who have put men on the moon and men and women in orbit in space stations, three creatives in Petaluma, a small town slightly more than 30 miles north of San Francisco, are determined to launch the world's first 'Best Stellar.'

When they do, children's publishing, like the first children who someday will venture into space and colonize other planets, will never be the same.

There are so many options for integrating digital tools into the classroom today. So many, that getting started can become overwhelming, especially with all the resources available and ideas being shared through books, blogs, social media, conferences, and conversations.  I too felt a bit overwhelmed a few years ago, but took a step back to focus on one area that I thought could benefit from some change.

I tried to find some areas where communication and collaboration were lacking or non-existent, and then decided to test out a few tools and see what happened. I listened, read, tested them, and finally decided to take a risk, pick one new tool, and try something different.

Here are eight tools that I tried and my thoughts on why they have made a difference in my classroom.

New EdTech Resource | Propr: A Universal Tablet Handle

The Propr is a 3D-printed handle that can be attached to any tablet or phone to make the device easier to hold and position.  It's an excellent resource for the classroom, or just for everyday use.  If you're used to reading on a tablet, you're probably also used to it getting incredibly uncomfortable after a while.  The design of the Propr makes devices easier to hold, especially for longer reading periods.

On top of that, you can use the Propr as a stand for tablets and phones, making it easier to setup and read from.  I had the chance to test one out over the past few days and have been incredibly impressed.  The Propr attaches to your device via suction, so regardless of your device type, you're good to go.  The same goes for most cases that I tested with as well, and the Propr would suction itself to every surface I tried to stick it on.

I also spent some time acting like an elementary/middle school student (which wasn't particularly a stretch) and using the Propr to spin my device around as fast as possible.  While this obviously isn't the recommend usage, the device stayed completely stuck to the Propr without any slippage whatsover.

In short, if you're looking for a more comfortable, effective way to hold your tablet, or to stand it up, I recommend checking out the Propr.  It's currently on Kickstarter for the next 10 days, and you can get your own 3D-printed version for $25.  Post-Kickstarter production plans are on their way as well and will be available at

Music is a powerful portal that lets us explore the meaning of life. It can comfort us in our darkest moments. Music can suspend us in time—capture us in glorious moments with neither a beginning nor an end. As a professional singer, music educator and choral director, I have the awesome task of teaching students at Gulliver Academy in Coral Gables, Florida, how to access the beauty, energy and endless opportunities that are available to them across all generations of music.

Users are often highly concerned about the number of features any software has. When an academic institution is to choose a plagiarism detection software, the biggest mistake is to focus on such things as grading tools, peer review options, and other add-ons instead of the quality of plagiarism detection itself. But the primary goal of the checker is to deliver relevant comparison results and do it fast.
