Burlingame, Calif.—August 6, 2015—NASDAQ: AMZN—As students head back to school, TenMarks, an Amazon company, launches a new version of its award-winning math solution to give teachers even more control and flexibility in aligning to every individual student’s needs, and help them better prepare for end-of-year testing.

Using data-driven instruction, TenMarks’ adaptive online math program provides teachers and students with personalized courses that have demonstrated significant increase in scores on the standards-aligned TenMarks assessments.

Now, TenMarks has updated the program with improved resources and tools to better solve common challenges teachers face every day: preparing and delivering engaging lessons, reinforcing and differentiating those lessons for every student, and promoting long-term learning and retention. The new TenMarks Math curriculum is available today for grades 1–12 at www.tenmarks.com.

In the 2014–2015 school year, teachers using TenMarks saw improvements in student learning outcomes measured by the TenMarks assessments and assignments, including:
  • Average growth of 28.5% on assessment scores after use of TenMarks
  • 20% improvement on assessment scores for students actively using TenMarks versus those not actively using TenMarks
  • Completion of a relevant assignment the week prior to taking an assessment resulted in outscoring peers not completing an assignment by an average of 21.5% on the relevant standards
  • An average improvement of 14.4% on a student assignment score with the use of an Amplifier intervention, and as much as 25% improvement for the lowest performers

“It’s gratifying to see the impact of the TenMarks program on the learning outcomes of students,” said Rohit Agarwal, Co-Founder of TenMarks and General Manager of Amazon K-12 Education. “The new program takes data-driven instruction for personalized learning to a new level for teachers, along with research-based enhancements for long-term retention, delivered in a more engaging experience for students.”

Currently, TenMarks is used by teachers in more than 85% of U.S. school districts. A teacher at a school in Washington state saw pass rates for students using TenMarks up to 22% higher than the state average on preliminary reports of the end-of-year Washington State Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) tests.

“For the coming school year, I would like to use TenMarks for my entire math curriculum. I believe that the rigorous TenMarks lessons and assignments will better prepare my students for the end-of-year Washington State SBA testing and, more importantly, for thinking outside the box and understanding math better,” said Michelle Rudolph, 5th grade teacher at Martin Sorkun Elementary.

Penny Gennuso, a Math and Science Specialist at the Lafayette Parish School District in Louisiana has replaced the district’s benchmark assessments during the school year with the TenMarks assessments because she saw the program accurately correlates with their state standards.

Daphne Irby, an Elementary Math/Science Curriculum Specialist in the Westerville City School District in Ohio, is also doing so for the coming school year for grades using TenMarks district-wide.

“TenMarks is a strong partner for school districts. It is refreshing to work with a company that is focused on customers, takes our feedback, and incorporates it into changes in the product,” said Irby.

TenMarks allows teachers to reduce time spent preparing and reinforcing instruction and increase time spent with students. The new version of the program launched today includes the complete flexibility to pair the TenMarks curriculum with teachers’ own pacing guides; a whole new way to integrate curriculum, including simplified, one-click assignments; and advanced search to help discover resources for individual student needs.

Students also have a spot in the driver’s seat with the new version, which provides self-paced learning options with Personal Work and Jam Sessions; immediate feedback on their work, which studies show promotes long-term learning retention; and improved engagement with the ability to earn and redeem points for games.

TenMarks has also added new educational content, including more than 2,000 technology-enhanced questions for elementary grades; support for the Integrated Math pathway for high school; new assessments and recommendations for differentiated learning; and comprehensive,  expanded lesson planning and instructional resources that cover all standards for grades 1–8.
