SAN FRANCISCO, May 13, 2014 – With the ever-growing emphasis on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in schools across the country, it is essential that speech-language professionals, special educators and administrators understand the implications for students with severe communication disorders and their roles in the CCSS implementation for these students.

To expand speech-language professionals’ and special educators’ understanding of this topic, PresenceLearning is hosting a free webinar “CCSS & Severe Cognitive Disabilities” onThursday, May 22, 2014 at 5 PM Pacific Time/8 PM Eastern Time. Presented by special education administrator Dr. Barbara J. Moore, CCC-SLP, this is first webinar in PresenceLearning’s new EXTRA CREDIT summer series.

To sign up for the webinar, visit: http://pages.presencelearning.com/Registration-CE-Webinar-14.html.

This in-depth, two-hour webinar will discuss the key components of the CCSS, compare alternate assessments and evaluate the role of the speech-language pathologist in the implementation of the Common Core for students with severe communication disorders. After completing the 2-hour webinar, attendees will receive 0.2 Continuing Education Units (CEU) from the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). There is no charge for participating in this webinar.

Learning outcomes for the webinar are that participants will be able to:

  • Understand the key components of the CCSS and its impact on students with severe cognitive disabilities
  • Compare alternative achievement standards and assessments
  • Discuss the impact the CCSS has on service delivery, goals and instruction

Since 2009, PresenceLearning’s online speech therapy and other related services have provided schools with a practical, affordable new option for service delivery: web-based access to a nationwide network of live, highly qualified, fully licensed speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists who are available whenever and wherever they are needed. PresenceLearning also offers online assessments for both speech and occupational therapy. By partnering with PresenceLearning, school districts can address capacity issues related to acute and chronic SLP and OT shortages, reduce high caseloads for onsite personnel, reduce their backlog of assessments, improve student outcomes and become more efficient. PresenceLearning also offers access to technical specialists, as well as culturally and linguistically diverse speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists.

By the end of the 2013-2014 school year, PresenceLearning will have delivered 450,000 live online therapy sessions in public school districts, charter schools and virtual schools of all sizes nationwide.
