with Award-Winning Digital Resource

Silver Spring, Md. (January 22, 2020) – Oklahoma’s Woodward Public Schools (WPS) announce the selection of Discovery Education Experience to support the creation of digital learning environments districtwide.  Created by Discovery Education – the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms – the award-winning Discovery Education Experience is a comprehensive digital service supplementing instruction across all K-12 curricular areas.

Located in the county seat, the Woodward Public Schools serve more than 2,500 students each day.  Dedicated to producing lifelong learners with a pioneer spirit: WPS students graduate cooperative, productive, responsible, and ready for the future.  To meet the district’s goals of increasing student achievement and closing achievement gaps, WPS has integrated digital content into classroom instruction.  After a careful review, the district selected Discovery Education Experience as its new digital resource for classroom use.

“The Woodward Public Schools’ educators are committed to the district’s ongoing, collaborative, data-driven effort to increase student achievement and close achievement gaps,” said Jerry Burch, WPS’s Deputy Superintendent Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology. “To accomplish this challenge, we are creating digital learning environments that engage students and support improved achievement.  While we’ve tried other providers of digital content, we’ve found that Discovery Education Experience provides our teachers the best suite of tools to support our needs.”

Discovery Education Experience—the latest iteration of Discovery Education’s popular Streaming Plus service—assists educators in creating real-world learning opportunities that engage all students and lead to improved academic achievement.  The service’s standards-aligned content is assignable and can be bookmarked and saved for later use and remixed to meet the varying needs of diverse student populations in a safe and secure environment.  In addition, the service’s up-to-date, high-quality, and ever-growing digital content collections, as well as a library of immersive virtual field trips and viewing parties, are drawn from trusted partners.

Students in elementary, middle and high school that have regular access to Discovery Education’s comprehensive, K-12 digital content service have higher attendance rates and are outpacing their peers on state assessments in reading, mathematics, and social studies. Additional findings tell a consistent story of how access to Discovery Education’s supplemental content services can be linked to higher student achievement, especially for racial/ethnic minorities and students impacted by poverty, disabilities, and limited English proficiency. Click here to learn more.

In addition to providing WPS’s educators access to Discovery Education Experience, this new partnership offers district teachers access to the Discovery Education Community. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

“Discovery Education is incredibly excited to begin this new collaboration with the Woodward Public Schools,” said Ericka Dean, Discovery Education’s National Partnerships Consultant. “The combination of our rich digital resources and the district’s dedicated team of educators will create the exciting learning environments that will support Woodward’s students future success.”
