Our coverage of the 2014 Ohio Educational Technology Conference continues with highlights in the programming arena.  The OETC is the third-largest state educational technology conference in the nation. Each year, more than 5,000 educational technology professionals and enthusiasts come together to explore the forefront of P-20 learning and innovation in Ohio...

The OETC features hundreds of educational sessions and more than 250 exhibitors spotlighting their products and services in all areas of educational technology, along with current student projects and future ideas for classroom applications of leading trends in education technology.

Some programming highlights include:

  • The Columbus Zoo sponsors The Zoo to You: Columbus Zoo and Aquarium School Programs which will include information on tech-inclusive opportunities at the zoo and also feature some unique animals for attendees to interact with at the conference.

  • Nanagrams: The Intergenerational Instagram - Elementary students from The Lippman School participated in a program where they were connected with a senior “Nana” counterpart for a unique relationship-building program centered around Instagram. The students trained the seniors during the school year so that all could work independently and asynchronously as they made their “Nana/student” connections during school day and beyond. Here, they will share their experiences.

  • Gravity Racing Challenge, International Soap Box Derby - Students from around Ohio will feature and compete in a gravity racing challenge using their own handmade soap box cars.

  • Keynote & featured speakers including Kevin Honeycutt, Jack Uldrich, Alan November, and more. Let me know if you are interested in interviewing any of our speakers and I will help you connect with them.

  • The #BestEdTech Awards were part of the OETC #BestEdTech social media campaign.  The campaign asked schools from around the state to capture photos of teachers and students using technology inside the classrooms and share them on social media using the #BestEdTech hashtag. All content was collected via social media and shared on Tumblr: bestedtech.tumblr.com. Nearly 20,000 votes were cast in support of the 44 nominees. There are nine winners, all nominated and voted in by their peers. Awards will be handed out just prior to Monday afternoon’s keynote, Jack Uldrich.

  • The STEM Robotics Challenge will host THREE competitive events during #OETC14! Monday features a middle school LEGO Robotics Systems competition, Tuesday features the middle school US Airforce Qualifier, and Wednesday will feature the high school US Air Force Qualifier for VEX Teams.

  • The School Video News Broadcast Center will feature a working studio that could be implemented in any K-12 environment. Staffed by technology professionals and students of Ohio schools, the Broadcast Center will produce stories featuring topical conference events and interviews with attendees, exhibitors, keynote speakers and others.

  • Two Guys & An iPad, a popular duo of teachers passionate about 1:1 learning will share real world examples of augmented reality in today’s classrooms. Click HERE to view an example of augmented reality and how it can aid to deeper understanding and learning.

  • iLearn Ohio is a comprehensive e-learning platform dedicated to ensuring that Ohio students have access to online courses, including Advanced Placement options, credit recovery courses, and tutorials. The information, available at no cost, is available through premium web-based content, and a fully integrated learning management system with tools to create and deliver custom lessons, assessments, and other content

  • Gamification is a growing trend in edtech and at OETC14. Throughout the conference, attendees will learn new techniques and tools in game-based learning. Demos from local graduate students will be available throughout each day of the conference to showcase the place and benefits of GBL in today’s classrooms and to share some of their favorite tools and games.
