Silver Spring, Md. (November 11, 2019) –  New York’s Three Village Central School District (Three Village) today announced an expansion of their ongoing collaboration with Discovery Education. In the latest phase of this multiyear partnership, elementary school teachers across the district will integrate Discovery Education’ dynamic digital science curriculum and engaging digital STEM resources into teaching and learning as part of an ongoing effort to create even more captivating classroom experiences. Discovery Education is the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms.

Located on the North Shore of New York’s Long Island, Three Village’s teachers and administrators are dedicated to ensuring that all children are everyday provided with engaging, satisfying and challenging lessons. To help create the types of lessons that maximize the success of each student's learning and supports their development into successful members of our democratic, multi-ethnic society, district educators are using a number of Discovery Education services, including Discovery Education Experience, for classroom activities.  A curated, personalized, one-of-a-kind digital curriculum service that delivers resources to educators based on their preferences, Discovery Education Experience helps all Three Village teachers save time and more easily differentiate instruction.  In addition, district teachers in grades 5 and 6 are using Discovery Education’s award -winning Social Studies and Science Techbooks.

Discovery Education’s Science, Social Studies, and Math Techbooks are currently used by approximately 5.6 million students across all 50 states and Canada. An immersive digital curriculum, Discovery Education’s Techbooks are aligned to rigorous standards and updated regularly at no cost. Each Techbook provides educators with detailed lesson plans, embedded formative assessments, hands-on activities, digital simulations, and robust teacher supports that deeply engage students in learning.

In this latest phase of partnership, Three Village educators in grades K-4 will soon be integrating Discovery Education’s Science Techbook into classroom instruction.  The Science Techbook series empowers educators to transform science instruction through a rich digital curriculum that includes video, audio, text, interactives with hands-on activities, and virtual labs that help educators differentiate instruction and provide a rich and engaging learning experience for students. Additional student features include Spanish/English text-to-speech and leveled reading tools and note-taking and highlighting capabilities.

The Science Techbook series also includes valuable STEM resources including STEM Project Starters that encourage students to connect math, technology, and engineering to their understanding of science concepts to produce creative solutions to real world problems. In addition, the STEM In Action resources help students connect their work to STEM careers, which promotes a clearer understanding of how skills used in school can be applied to jobs “in the real world.”

In addition, educators in the district’s six, K-6 elementary schools will also use  Discovery Education STEM Connect to engage students in STEM topics and lessons. STEM Connect is a cutting-edge, web-based, interdisciplinary K-8 supplemental resource that helps students develop the creative, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills they need for success beyond graduation, and was recently awarded the prestigious CODiE award by the Software and Information Industry Association. Featuring flexible, modular learning units, STEM Connect provides students an easy-to-follow educational experience that includes real-world challenges, career connections, and hands-on activities.

“Three Village Central School District has long maintained a commitment to designing and supporting flexible learning environments that best meet each students’ needs,” said Kevin Scanlon, Three Village’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum. “When coupled with our already robust and established curriculum and programs, this expanded partnership with Discovery Education will provide our teachers with even more resources to continue to enhance learning for all students.”

Three Village’s educators will also continue receiving support from the Discovery Education Community. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

“Discovery Education is excited to build on our strong relationship with the Three Village Central School District,” said Ann Weiss, Discovery Education’s Senior Manager of Education Partnerships. “Together we are creating a rigorous, exciting curriculum that will prepare all students for success beyond graduation.”
