My name is Jane Cui. I am a teacher, and I taught the SAT (a common college entrance exam in the USA) for 3 years. I found out that a lot of my students would NOT memorize vocabulary, and would do quite poorly on the English section of the test.
They were scared because it was hard, really boring, and confusing. They were intimidated, because I gave them a huge 500 list of vocabulary words to study. They would say "English is not my first language," or "I have trouble focusing," or "I get anxiety when I take tests."
I understand their situation, because when I took the GRE (graduate school entrance exam), I had the exact same feeling. When I first took a practice test, I scored in the 58% percentile. I thought to myself "But I am an English teacher! How can this be?!"
It was because I didn't study the vocabulary at all. I got every single vocabulary question WRONG on the practice test. I was lazy, and overconfident.
So I told myself that I needed to fix this. I needed to help my students, and help myself.
This is why I made Flashcard Monkey. It's just simple cartoon flashcards that teach you vocabulary. The trick is that the colorful pictures help you remember the vocabulary words. Another thing about it is the mnemonic device. With a mnemonic device, you can better remember vocabulary through rhyming schemes.
I made 500 SAT flashcards into funny cartoons with a mnemonic sentence, so you don't have to. So my students can just look at the flashcards, see the picture, and remember the vocabulary word immediately. I've already done the hard work for you. All you have to do is look at it and learn!
