Silver Spring, Md. (March 4, 2020) – Discovery Education – the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms – today announced the addition of hundreds of new assets to its award-winning digital services. Among the engaging new resources recently added to Discovery Education Experience and the Science and the Social Studies Techbooks are a variety of exciting titles that educators can immediately integrate into instruction.  These new resources empower educators to:

Educate Students on the Coronavirus:  The brand-new Viruses and Outbreaks Channel within Discovery Education Experience helps educators discuss the Coronavirus outbreak with their students.  Including timely updates regarding the Coronavirus, content describing what a virus is, information on how infectious diseases spread as well as essential guidelines for staying healthy, this channel directly links classrooms to the news shaping our world today.

Encourage civic participation with the Election 2020 Channel: The recently launched Election 2020 channel in Social Studies Techbook and Discovery Education Experience features weekly updates from the campaign trail, profiles of the 2020 candidates and their positions on key issues, and resources on the history of voting rights and elections in the United States. This unique channel will be dynamically updated through the November general election so students can stay informed as the race takes shape.

Spark curiosity about the natural world with Earth to Luna!: Now available in Science Techbook and Discovery Education Experience, the animated, K-2 series “Earth to Luna!” investigates natural phenomena and encourages early elementary students to think like scientists.  In “Earth to Luna!”, Luna, her brother Jupiter, and her pet ferret Clyde ask big questions, use their imagination and the scientific method to explore how the world works. The series will be available in English as well as Spanish.

Show students the power of the periodic table: Featured in Science Techbook and Discovery Education Experience, the new interactive Periodic Table of Elements lets students swipe and tap their way across the periodic table for quick stats on each element. Students can search the table by name or symbol, click into each element for its “full stats,” and even recolor the table with patterns based off properties like boiling point, melting point, and atomic radius.

Brave the Wild with Coyote Peterson and Animal Planet: Wildlife educator Coyote Peterson brings the animal kingdom up close for the next wave of explorers while promoting compassion and welfare for the natural world. Together with wildlife biologist Mario Aldecoa and his fearless crew, Coyote travels to Australia's Devil Ark conservatory to reveal the history behind the critically endangered and misunderstood Tasmanian devil and discovers the dedication needed to conserve this species; to Brazil where Coyote encounters the Yacare Caiman, a cousin of the crocodile, and swims alongside the ancient animal to study its perfect-predator behavior as jaguars lurk from the shoreline; and to the swamplands of Texas in search of the giant legendary alligator snapping turtle known as Raphael. “Coyote Peterson: Brave the Wild” is now available in Science Techbook and Discovery Education Experience.

Inspire the next generation with engaging NGSS professional development: Stay connected with the latest Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) tips, strategies, resources, and interviews with the NGS Navigators podcast series, now available in Science Techbook and within the Podcast channel in Discovery Education Experience. Featuring interviews with science education researchers, writers of the NGSS, NGSS teachers, and scientists, this podcast is designed to be efficient, effective, and engaging for teachers.

Go beyond the history books to uncover the life of George Washington: Learn about the life and legacies of George Washington with new videos, imagery, and lesson plans from the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, now available in Social Studies Techbook and Discovery Education Experience. Students will learn about Washington’s impact on the Supreme Court from Justice Anthony Kennedy and hear from Senator Tim Kaine on the importance of Washington’s Farewell Address. Together, these resources help students better understand the world of America’s first president and his influence on the American political system.

Build it bigger, stronger, and faster with Adam Savage and the Discovery Channel: In “Savage Builds,” students join Adam Savage of MythBusters as he recruits the best engineers, special effects artists, and scientists to build some of the most ambitious projects of his career. Adam and his crew design and build an Ironman suit, forge a medieval sword from a meteorite, and reconstruct one of World War II’s most famous engineering marvels. The exciting series is now available in Science Techbook and Discovery Education Experience.

Reflect on the role of technology in our past, present, and future with the Tech Interactive: In “The Tech Interactive: Tech for Tomorrow Virtual Field Trip,” students travel virtually to The Tech Interactive, a world-famous science and technology center in San Jose, California, and explore the center’s science labs, hands-on activities, and design-challenge experiences, and takes students on a road trip through Silicon Valley to meet STEM professionals working in tech. The program considers the idea of technology—including what it means, the role it plays in our lives, and how it can be used to help make the world a better place. This exclusive Virtual Field Trip is now available in Science Techbook and Discovery Education Experience.

Celebrate Women’s History Month: Retrace the remarkable achievements women have made throughout history in the new Women’s History Month channel in Discovery Education Experience. Profiles of remarkable women in history and contemporary society illustrate the impact of women in politics, STEM, the arts, sports, and beyond.

Users of Discovery Education’s digital services can quickly find this new content here.

“While YouTube and other websites are chock full of content, the teachers I work with report that finding really high-quality, standards-aligned content they can quickly integrate into instruction is difficult,” said Amy Fraboni, the K-5 Instructional Technologist in North Carolina’s Greene County Schools. “Discovery Education makes that process of finding standards-aligned digital resources that are both engaging and appropriate for classroom use simple, saving my teachers a tremendous amount of time that can then spend with their students.”

Educators using Discovery Education’s digital services also receive support from the Discovery Education Community. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.

“Discovery Education’s mission is to prepare learners for tomorrow by creating innovative classrooms connected to today’s world,” said Discovery Education Vice President of Digital Content Robin Porter. “We are excited to add these great new resources to Discovery Education Experience and the Science and the Social Studies Techbooks, and we will continue to add new content to all our services to ensure they continue to be educators’ ‘go to’ tools for creating lessons that connect the classroom to the world.”
