(MINNEAPOLIS, MN) January 30, 2017 — myON, leading provider of digital literacy solutions in the K–12 marketplace, announced today that myON News Powered by News-O-Matic, an interactive digital multimedia platform that publishes five original news articles for K–8 students every weekday, now provides written and recorded articles in three languages: English, Spanish, and French.

“Since its launch last year, myON News has been a huge success, and we continue to add features that make high-quality content more accessible to students across the globe,” said Todd Brekhus, the President of myON. “We’re seeing educators incorporate daily news articles into lessons and identifying ‘fake news’ an essential topic of conversation. Establishing an interest in world news is crucial to our children’s future, as these are the people who will someday grow up to become active, empathetic, and conscientious adults.”

Each myON News article is translated by native Spanish and French speakers. In addition, the “Read to Me” function includes audio recordings performed by real people (not computers), which have proven to be valuable for English language learners, as well as students with a desire to read articles in a variety of languages. Users can learn the pronunciation of key vocabulary and understand pacing, tone, inflection, and intonation.

“The ability to read along with articles narrated in a different language is a huge opportunity to expose students to other cultures,” said News-O-Matic Chief Content Officer Russell Kahn. “The addition of French ties in with our mission to inspire global citizenship. Even kids who don’t speak French can tap the ‘Bonjour’ button and listen to the beauty of the French language.”
