New York, NY, October 22, 2015 –Kaltura, the leading video technology provider, today announced that it is among the first to receive conformance certification for the recently released IMS Global Learning Consortium Caliper Analytics standard.

Caliper Analytics specifies an open, standardized way for learning systems to share student activity data. As the importance of learning analytics grows, IMS Global has developed a standard which enables schools and systems to collect and combine data from a number of different sources easily, seamlessly, and in a future-proof way.

“We are extremely excited that Kaltura is one of the first organizations to adopt and complete conformance certification for Caliper, which is the world’s first educational analytics standard that was developed collaboratively by IMS member institutions and ed-tech suppliers,” said Dr. Rob Abel, Chief Executive Officer at the IMS Global Learning Consortium. “The use of video in education has been growing at a staggering rate, and we are delighted to be working with Kaltura to ensure that video data can be easily incorporated with other data, based on this new standard.”

The addition of Caliper to Kaltura’s video solutions provides a standard, open, and flexible way to enable easy portability of the Kaltura-generated information directly into other systems such as LMSs (Learning Management Systems) and LRSs (Learning Record Stores).  This enables Kaltura data to be easily combined with other student analytics in order to provide a fuller picture of student activity and performance, which can in turn be used to improve learning outcomes.

“One of Kaltura’s key values is openness and interoperability, which is why we work so closely with IMS on industry standards like LTI®, the Open Video Capture Standard and now Caliper Analytics,” said Ron Yekutiel, Chairman, Co-founder and CEO at Kaltura.

“We want to make it easy for our customers to get value from their video and their data – Caliper helps to ensure that video-related data is incorporated with other sources of data to provide deeper understanding and actionable analysis.”

Kaltura’s video platform has always collected a great deal of student interaction data, and has led the way in exposing the data around student interaction with video,  providing  dashboards to faculty and administrators, as well as a rich API that has enabled partners to extract and query the data that Kaltura captures. Caliper Analytics will make it far easier to share the data across additional platforms in a standardized way.
