Enhanced Bus Wi-Fi Solution Helps Support Increased Volume of Safely Connected Devices

MCLEAN, Virginia—October 4, 2017--Kajeet®, the industry leader for safe, mobile student Internet connectivity, today announces enhancements to its SmartBus™ filtered school bus Wi-Fi solution. Improvements include updating the router from the Cradlepoint COR IBR1100 to the Cradlepoint COR IBR900, meaning faster Wi-Fi, more connected devices (and therefore more connected students), and the ability to choose two wireless carriers and switch between networks based on coverage needs.

This is the first LTE router with “Wave 2” Gigabit Wi-Fi, creating a faster Wi-Fi experience for students on the school bus. The Kajeet SmartBus solution now connects more students at one time, provides stronger Wi-Fi performance speeds, and supplies more bandwidth on multiple networks. Students can work on homework, collaborate with peers, or use digital apps on the school bus with faster, CIPA-compliant Education Broadband™.

According to a recent survey of school administrators by Kajeet in conjunction with School Transportation News, the opportunity for students to complete homework to and from school is a top benefit of school bus Wi-Fi. Additional benefits include a decrease in student behavior incidents on the bus and an increase in bus driver retention.

“SmartBus improvements with faster Education Broadband provide students the quick, safe access they need to succeed,” said Kajeet CEO and Founder Daniel Neal. “Students can spend more time on task and focus on learning, without worrying about slow or unreliable connectivity on their way to and from school, athletic games, and educational events. Kajeet aims to provide the best access to connect students to their educational resources outside the classroom.”

Now partnering with four of the nation’s leading 4G LTE wireless networks, Kajeet has doubled its network partners and expanded its coverage. When surveyed, 80 percent of school administrators stated that coverage is a top need for school bus Wi-Fi, with 69 percent desiring high-connection speed. Kajeet responded by meeting, and surpassing these requests from educators with the latest round of SmartBus improvements.

“The new COR IBR900 offers the latest generation Wave 2 Gigabit Wi-Fi, which will provide students the fastest Internet speed on the school bus as part of a mobile solution working to close the Homework Gap,” said Tony Puopolo, vice president of North America channel sales for Cradlepoint. “This compact, ruggedized router connects the school bus to 4G LTE networks, allowing for a seamless experience for students to access the online educational tools they need, despite sitting on a moving bus.”

The COR IBR900 router includes dual SIM support, allowing school districts to use and change between two separate wireless networks. If one network is stronger than another in certain areas of the district, the router can switch to the stronger network. With the additional carriers, school districts choose the carrier – or carriers – that provide the strongest coverage in their area with the complete Kajeet Education Broadband connectivity package.

Currently providing managed and filtered school bus Wi-Fi to over 70 districts across 31 states, Kajeet continues to extend the classroom to the school bus. As access increases, more students can connect to the tools they need to succeed.
