Many children today do not know what lays outside the small area in which they live. Some are not aware that not too far away are communities that look entirely different from their own; where the pace of life is different and the culture is almost foreign. In this fun and interactive lesson, students explore the three major types of communities - urban, rural and suburban and learn what criteria are used to classify them.
Students also learn to identify the different lifestyles that go along with living in each of these communities. In addition, students are lead to understand that they belong to many communities simultaneously, depending on their activities, interests, culture and religion.
