K-12 district chooses Edsby as district-wide solution for student and parent engagement

ONTARIO, Canada (October 3, 2017) – Edsby®  the most comprehensive learning and analytics platform available for K-12, is being introduced district-wide at York Region District School Board (YRDSB), one of the largest school districts in Canada. With over 123,000 students in 177 elementary schools and 33 secondary schools, YRDSB serves one of the fastest growing areas in North America – the Regional Municipality of York located in the Greater Toronto Area.

YRDSB selected Edsby via competitive bid for an enterprise K-12 engagement platform. While seeking a system to engage students and their parents in the academic process, the district also sought capabilities that would support teachers with assessment and reporting capabilities aligned with the Canadian province of Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum and “Growing Success” model for assessment and evaluation.

Also, important to YRDSB were purpose-built K-12 group collaboration features. These capabilities enable staff professional development, collaborative learning communities, project-based learning, support for extra-curricular groups such as teams and clubs, and parent-staff collaboration for parent school councils and volunteer groups.

“Our district saw the need to provide our stakeholders with modern cloud-based tools that allow for collaboration and personalization of learning while supporting the wide range of mobile devices and computers in use by our students, staff and families,” said Paulla Bennett, YRDSB Chief Information Officer. “Edsby provides this in a way that aligns with our focus on privacy, security and equity, and in a way that is very easy to use, as it is modeled after familiar popular social media systems and available via web browser or free mobile apps.”

“Edsby has been specifically designed to bring the latest in highly scalable cloud, mobile and ‘big data’ technologies to K-12 learning organizations in a way that supports each organization’s unique practices, and that leverages existing systems already in place,” said John Myers, President of Edsby. “We’re delighted York Region District School Board has selected Edsby to play a key part in the implementation of its strategic vision for technology usage, and we’re excited to have the first wave of York Region schools already up and engaging in Edsby.”

Many other districts in the area have adopted Edsby. In 2015, Greater Essex District School Board selected Edsby for its teachers and 35,000 students and their parents. Additionally, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board selected Edsby for deployment to its 34,000 students and their parents. And this summer, Edsby was adopted by the 10,000-student Near North District School Board and 9,400-student Algoma District School Board.
