“Discovery Education’s Virtual Viewing Parties help me plan important observances like Dr. King’s birthday,” said Charles Anderson, Principal of Chicago Public Schools’ Michele Clark Magnet High School.  “This event gives me vetted, easy to use resources that will help me teach the importance of Dr. King’s work and his ongoing legacy.”

In addition to hosting activities like the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Virtual Viewing Party, Discovery Education offers a host of digital services that support social studies instruction and the exploration of United States’ history. Discovery Education Experience—the latest iteration of Discovery Education’s popular Streaming Plus service—is a comprehensive digital service supplementing instruction across all K–12 curricular areas.  Discovery Education Experience assists educators in creating real-world learning opportunities that engage all students and lead to improved academic achievement.  The service’s standards-aligned content is assignable and can be bookmarked and saved for later use and remixed to meet the varying needs of diverse student populations in a safe and secure environment.  In addition, the service’s up-to-date, high-quality, and ever-growing digital content collections, as well as a library of immersive virtual field trips and viewing parties, are drawn from trusted partners.

Students in elementary, middle and high school that have regular access to Discovery Education’s comprehensive, K-12 digital content service have higher attendance rates and are outpacing their peers on state assessments in reading, mathematics, and social studies. Additional findings tell a consistent story of how access to Discovery Education’s supplemental content services can be linked to higher student achievement, especially for racial/ethnic minorities and students impacted by poverty, disabilities, and limited English proficiency. Click here to learn more.

Discovery Education’s Social Studies Techbook pairs compelling core content with thought-provoking essential questions, primary source analysis, and project-based tasks to help all students experience the social studies.  Specifically developed for diverse student audiences and curated by experts for ease of access, Social Studies Techbook’s high-quality, multimodal content supports the improvement of academic vocabulary, breaks down barriers to learning, provides all students multiple ways to shine, and engages students in higher-level thinking. In addition, a variety of differentiation tools integrated at point of use help educators meet the unique needs of each student. Access to two Lexile levels of core content, authentic Spanish translation—and 180 additional languages through Google Translate—as well as strategies for teaching students with special needs and English learners assist educators in creating inclusive, immersive learning experiences.

“Discovery Education is proud to bring this latest virtual experience to teachers and students, and we invite educators everywhere to participate,” said Discovery Education President of K-12 Education Scott Kinney.  “These events, which encourage students to focus on great Americans like Dr. King, provide students and teachers the opportunity to discuss their impact on our nation and their continued relevance to citzens and our culture.”
