Over a year and a half ago, I had an idea for a mobile application. I was in the third year of my physical and health education degree at McGill University. The problem was that I had no idea where to begin and I had absolutely no coding knowledge. Then, along came Buzztouch.
Buzztouch is an open-source project, a web-based software, a content management system (CMS), and in essence, an app engine that helps you build iOS and Android apps like the pros. Those who register as Buzztouch Guests have access to a variety of services while Buzztouch Members are privy to even more. “Guests get the free stuff. Members get spoiled,” Buzztouch’s website writes.
Buzztouch’s creation process is seamless and apps are built through the website’s control panel. However, the simplicity lies in Buzztouch’s plugins. Plugins are pre-written screens, menus, and features that vary widely in functionality. At the core, each application is a collection of these plugins.

Once a user is satisfied with what he or she has assembled, the Buzztouch control panel prepares the application package. Users then use the iOS or Android software development kit (SDK) to prepare this package for submission to the App Store or to Google Play. Once an app is available for download, changes, updates, and improvements can be made through the Buzztouch control panel. These changes are automatically updated on phones and tablets that have installed the user’s application.
Beginners aren’t the only ones who can reap the benefits of using Buzztouch. Experienced developers, for instance, can save lots of time in manually writing code. Additional plugins can also be created and customized providing the user with an unlimited amount of flexibility and creativity.
Overall, Buzztouch has a rich list of resources and one of the most active communities to help users along the way!

Currently, Nicholas Stratigopoulos is a master’s candidate in the Educational Technology program offered at Concordia University. Since his discovery of Buzztouch, he has released a total of 12 mobile applications – 8 for iOS and 4 for Android.
