My.Future 2.0 Platform Unveiled, Providing New Resources and Opportunities for Kids, Educators

LOS ANGELES – Wednesday, November 8, 2017— Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Comcast NBCUniversal together unveiled the next iteration of their digital literacy platform, My.Future, today in Los Angeles, Calif. From its initial roll out as a tool for staff members to facilitate programming, “My.Future 2.0” will serve as the primary vehicle that nearly four million Boys & Girls Club kids and teens will use for digital learning opportunities. This is yet another step for the nearly 160-year-old nonprofit organization to ensure Boys & Girls Clubs remain relevant and impactful in a world where kids are born digital natives.

Comcast NBCUniversal is the Presenting Sponsor of My.Future, the latest version of which will feature programs for kids like computer science, digital learning essentials, media making, visual arts and much more. Boys & Girls Clubs of America will be able to see in real-time how many Club members interact with the programs each day, allowing the organization to react and provide new dynamic resources as Club member preferences and needs evolve. Groundbreaking in the education and out of school-time space, this platform will enable more youth development professionals to monitor trends and gaps in learning opportunities for kids, especially those most in need.

“Today’s youth are born in a digital age. Offering experiences through My.Future is critical to preparing for their future education and job opportunities, especially with so many careers expected in STEM fields,” said Jim Clark, president and CEO Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “Thanks to support from Comcast NBCUniversal, My.Future was built to deliver impact through research and data-driven youth development trends. As an organization we’ll be able to more nimbly provide innovative programs and resources that kids and teens need, to better prepare them for their future through My.Future.”

My.Future also delivers against each of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s five evidence-based principles – to provide a safe and productive environment, access to supportive relationships, create opportunities and expectations for youth, recognition, and, of course, fun and engaging experiences and programming.

“We believe that everyone – regardless of income or zip code – should have the opportunity to succeed and that means access to technology,” said Jessica Clancy, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility at Comcast NBCUniversal. “This program meets youth where they are, online, and we are thrilled to be reaching more of them through this program.”

Since 2011, Comcast and the Comcast Foundation have dedicated about $350 million in cash and in-kind to fund digital literacy initiatives nationally, reaching nearly five million people through national and local nonprofit community partners, including Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Comcast NBCUniversal and Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s My.Future program engages members with a safe, fun digital platform to showcase their work and earn recognition in the form of stars, badges and master badges. It’s a space where kids can interact with each other – free from the prospect of cyberbullying – and share their accomplishments locally and nationally.
