Charlotte N.C. (June 15, 2017) — Aperture Education’s Evo Social/Emotional, has been named a finalist for Best Social-Emotional Development Solution in the 2017 Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) CODiE Award program. Winners will be announced during a CODiE Award Winner Ceremony in San Francisco on July 26, 2017 at the Education Impact Symposium, hosted by the Education Technology Industry Network (ETIN), a division of SIIA.

Aperture Education is a social enterprise focused on social-emotional learning skills. Evo Social/Emotional is Aperture’s K-12 online assessment and intervention tool. It uses the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) to help educators measure students’ SEL skills and implement individualized, classroom and school-wide strategies for instruction and intervention.

The CODiE judges described Evo Social/Emotional as “user-friendly,” “easy to access and navigate,” and a “very comprehensive program designed to address social emotional learning.”

“(It) does a nice job incorporating lessons to address these needs. Overall an excellent system,” they stated. They liked that Evo Social/Emotional includes a full package of assessments and activities for students and data for teachers. One judge commented that it would be excellent to use with students with disabilities.

“(It’s a) great resource for all those skills that are being left behind due to standardized testing,” stated one of the judges. “Because the program is data-driven, (it) is attractive to admin. Fantastic for life skills.”

The SIIA CODiE Awards are the premier awards for the software and information industries, and have been recognizing product excellence for over 30 years. They are the industry's only peer-reviewed awards program. The awards offer 93 categories in education technology and business technology. Evo Social/Emotional is among 160 finalists in 34 education technology categories. The finalists are comprised of applications, products and services from developers of educational software, digital content, online learning solutions and related technologies across the PreK-20 sector. Evo Social/Emotional is among three finalists in its category.

Aperture Education works with educators, administrators and out-of-school-time providers who are implementing social and emotional learning programs within their schools providing strength-based assessments and resilience-building resources to help address the whole child. Its goal is to ensure members of school and out-of-school time communities, including adults, have the social and emotional skills needed to thrive.

“The social and emotional health of students is critically important to their lifelong success, both in and out of school,” said Aperture Education CEO Jessica Adamson. “We developed Evo Social/Emotional as a comprehensive SEL assessment solution to identify students’ SEL strengths and areas of need. This tool helps teachers address the whole child and helps schools and districts measure the effectiveness of their SEL programs. We are pleased at the positive reviews from the CODiE judges, and honored to be named a finalist in this category.”

Educators and administrators served as judges and conducted the first-round review of all education nominees. Their scores determined the SIIA CODiE Award finalists. SIIA members now vote on the finalist products. The scores from both rounds are tabulated to select the winners. Details about each finalist are listed at http://www.siia.net/codie/Finalists
