A new challenger approaches the United States edtech environment: Edoome, a Chilean based educational platform focused on saving teachers time and bringing friendly and easy-to-use technology to their classrooms. Back in the beginnings of 2012, founders Leonardo de la Fuente and Francisco Rubio, both computer engineers, joined forces to pursue their dream to improve their local educational system with the use of technology. They went through well-known programs such as Start-Up Chile and ImagineK12 for mentorship and to finance the launch of their platform called Edoome.
Now, almost 4 years later, Edoome is on the brink of adding 100.000 Chilean primary teachers to the platform, through a direct agreement with Chile’s Ministry of Education and are already in talks for the use of Edoome in all public schools as a government policy. It doesn't stop there. Already with a wide presence in Latin America, the next logical step is launching their services in the United States and Brazil and try to conquer the Americas completely.
Edoome allows teachers to create virtual classrooms in a minute so they can communicate and collaborate with their students in a safe and secure way. Online tools like sharing documents, creating quizzes, assignments and grading their students are just a few of the things teachers can do using the free version.
The concept of a virtual classroom is not particularly new, but still Edoome is able to do it differently. Latin-American countries, in a lot of ways, are still behind in the use of edtech solutions. The majority of their teachers are not as, if at all, tech savvy. This fact forced Edoome to be as simple as possible and be completely focused around the teacher. As a lot of Latin American teachers are just starting to experiment with technology on their own behalf, their first impression cannot be a bad one. It had to be simple, easy-to-use and effective to open the door for more sophisticated solutions and to encourage teachers to start adopting tech alternatives in their ways of teaching.
