This annual awards program recognizes seven educators—one elementary teacher, two middle school teachers, three high school teachers, and one college-level educator—for their innovative use of data-collection technology in the science classroom.

Benetech’s Bookshare Software Serves Students Who Read Differently in Over 25,000 Schools and School Districts PALO ALTO, Calif. — Nov. 1, 2017 — Benetech, the leading software for social good nonprofit, today announced a five-year award from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, to expand and improve access to books for students who read differently due to blindness, low vision, a physical disability, or dyslexia. Bookshare, the largest online library of accessible books, along with training and support, will remain free for all U.S. school districts, schools, educators, and their qualified students. University of Rochester sophomore is fifth recipient of quarterly $2,500 scholarship Chicago – Nov. 1, 2017 – OppU, a financial literacy site that provides free money management education, named University of Rochester sophomore Salih Zainulabdeen as the fifth recipient of its quarterly OppU Achievers Scholarship. Zainulabdeen, who was born in Baghdad in 1996, spent his childhood in a war zone. He went on to help found the first tech-space start-up in Iraq and is now pursuing a degree in computer science in the U.S. The OppU Achievers Scholarship provides $2,500 for his education expenses. The Illinois district aims to use performance tasks to encourage student growth and assess students’ understanding of standards-aligned learning. (CHICAGO, IL) November 1, 2017 --Defined Learning today announced its partnership with School District U-46 in northern Illinois for a district-wide implementation of Defined STEM, a web-based curriculum resource that supports project-based learning.
