LearnBIG: Find Your Best Educational Resources

LearnBIG is an awesome new site to help students and teachers find online educational resources.  With the internet's constantly-expanding collection of MOOCs, online classes, and educational sites, LearnBIG aims to help educators easily find the resource that is best for their learning needs.  Let's check it out!

When you first get to the site, you'll be presented with the main screen you see below. From here, you can search for resources, see what resources have been "most launched," sign in to your personal account, or simply click "start exploring" to browse by subject, grade level, standards addressed, or a bunch of other filters.

From here, you can either type what you're looking for in the search bar at the top (i.e. "Mathematics") or click start exploring and set your specific filter guidelines.

After you select your filter and conduct your search, you can organize the results as well.  If you want to see the highest rated, or the newest resources, or anything like that, it's incredibly easy to do.

Once you've found a resource you like the looks of, you can click on it to get the full rundown.  You'll be presented with the details of the resource, reviews from other users, a description of the resource, and the option to add it to your personal collection.

One of the advantages to creating an account for the site is that you can create resource collections.  This could be great for classroom use, if the teacher created a resource collection to share with the students (either by links, by sharing a common login and password, or by having students create their own accounts).

The final feature of LearnBIG (and probably my favorite) is the "Career Paths" tab that you can select at the top.  On this page, you can find a list of skills that are needed for specific careers and, by clicking on those skills, you can easily find great online resources to start learning.  Right now they only have 8 paths posted, but over the next month they'll be adding many more.

And essentially, that's the site!  It's incredibly simple, but it does what it sets out to do, and it does it well.  The waters of online learning are quickly becoming crowded and difficult to navigate, and I'm glad a site like this now exists.

If you're looking for online learning resources, this is a wonderful place to start.  And the Career Paths page is an added bonus that I think will be an incredibly beneficial feature in the coming months.
