If you've spent any time looking for educational apps on the iPad, you've probably noticed that there are a TON of options. Fortunately, there's an awesome new service that helps parents and educators find the best apps for their kids.  AppoLearning is a free website and iOS app that tests and reviews educational apps, and they do a great job of it.

AppoLearning reviews apps for all subjects, all grade levels, and they offer incredibly in-depth "report cards" of how each application stands up under review.  Here's a quick introduction to the service:

You can get started with AppoLearning by heading over to their site or downloading the free iOS app.  You don't even need to create an account to get started!

When you get to the site (or open up the app) you'll need to select a category.  I was incredibly impressed with the huge collection of subjects that they offer.  Not only are all the core subjects included, but electives and special needs are there as well.

AppoLearning also offers a great collection of articles about the benefits of mobile learning apps and about specific apps that come highly recommended.

Once you search by a category, you'll be able to browse through all the apps that have been reviewed by the experts at AppoLearning.  You can see the score that each app received and if you want more information about a specific app, just click on it to check out the full "report card."

The report cards are incredibly detailed and all the reviews I checked out did an excellent job of capturing all aspects of the app.  The "experts" who review the apps are teachers and educators who have an interest in educational technology.

And, as the video mentioned, each report card is reviewed again by another expert to ensure accuracy.  The system seems to work well and the report cards are very helpful in getting a quick idea of how each app would work in the classroom.

The other thing I really love about the service is the comments section.  While looking through the report cards I found a lot of great discussions between teachers, parents, and the experts at AppoLearning. They are happy to offer advice on specific apps, or general technology advice.

The iOS app is also well designed and easy to use.  If you'd rather browse for apps on your iPad, it's worth downloading (plus it's free!)
