The Reading Horizons Elevate software can be used independently on any computer or Chromebook with an internet connection, or with guidance from a teacher as part of a blended learning environment. The resource aims to gives students a choice as to which topic they’re interested in researching and writing about, and also asks students to make real-world connections through both topic and assessment options. Frontier is available on any web enabled device and is currently available for free until March 31st. It’s an excellent resource for those working in the field, but it also holds a great deal of potential for use in high school science classrooms. There are multiple possibilities for differentiation and collaboration, plus, it’s a completely free resource. Teachers post topics, videos, or links for discussions and students respond to the prompt and to each other with short video reflections. It’s a wonderful resource, and Flipgrid offers a free plan as well for those who want to give it a try. On the student side, FlipGrid is available as both an iOS and Android app, and teachers can login through any browser as well. I strongly believe that music education can be both a powerful and empowering component of a student’s education and I believe it’s a shame that so many schools have moved away from music requirements and integration.
